Host University of Illinois-Springfield broke open a 1-1 tie capturing the final two sets to claim a 3-1 victory over William Jewell College on Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference Action.
With the loss Jewell falls to 3-22 overall and 1-14 in the GLVC. UIS improves to 9-15 overall and 2-13 in GLVC play.
The Prairie Stars took the first set 25-20 before Jewell responded winning the second set 25-16. UIS then finished off the win with victories in the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-22 respectively.
Christina Pratt led the attack for Wilkes posting 18 kills and three digs.
Kaylee Marquardt added 11 kills for Jewell. Â
Amy Lindhorst led the passing game with 40 assists, while Cody Winslow and
Lesley Iron finished with 11 digs each.
The Cardinals return to the court Sunday traveling to Lebanon, Ill., to take on McKendree University. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m.
