Darius Tomlin had a team-high 24 points but the William Jewell College men's basketball team fell to Northwest Missouri State University, 91-85, on Friday evening on the opening day of the Hillyard Tipoff Classic at the Missouri Western Fieldhouse . Jewell begins the 2014 season 0-1 while Northwest Missouri State improves to 2-1.
Tomlin was 10-of-14 from the field including two of three from three point land to lead the Cards. Last season's Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year
D'Vante Mosby had 20 points and six rebounds while senior
Jordan Lewis added 18 for Jewell.
The Cardinals opened the first half strong shooting 60 percent from the field and took an eight point lead into halftime. The Bearcats then caught fire in the second half shooting 76 percent from the field and 16 of 16 from the foul line in the second half. Justin Pitts led Northwest with a game high 29 points.
William Jewell will play Missouri Western State University 7:00 p.m. tomorrow on the final day of the Hillyard Tipoff Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.
