Despite scoring 38 second half points, the William Jewell College men's basketball team fell to Missouri Western State University 63-61, this evening in the Hillyard Tipoff Classic in St. Joseph, Mo.
Sophomore forward
D'Vante Mosby led the Cards with 15 points, shooting 4-8 from the floor.
Jordan Lewis and
Clint McCullough each added 12 points joining Mosby as the only Cards in double figures.
The first half belonged to the Griffons as they shot 45 percent from the field compared to Jewell's 30 percent and led 34-23 at halftime.
Missouri Western led by as many as 11 points in the second half when the Cardinals charged back with a tear to pull within two points, 57-55, with 2:12 to play.
Later a three-point bucket from Ryan Devers made the score 60-55 and the Cardinals could not close the gap for the rest of the way.
With the loss, Jewell now stands at 0-2 on the season.
The Cardinals will return home on Tuesday, November 25 for a non-conference matchup with Southwest Baptist University at 7:30 p.m.
