The William Jewell College men's basketball team faced off against non-conference Avila University on Saturday at the Mabee Center. The Cards won in decisive fashion, 82-65 to win for the fifth time in six games. Jewell improves to 5-4 overall on the campaign.
The Cardinals started off on a 17-4 run, but the Eagles answered with a 15-2 run, tying the game up at 19 with five minutes left. At halftime, the score was 30-22.
In the second half, the Cardinals and Eagles exchanged baskets back and forth, until the Cards went on a 14-6 run. At the 2:54 mark, the Cardinals had their largest lead at 24, 79-55.
Returning letter-winner and GLVC Freshman of the Year,
D'Vante Mosby lead the team in points with 26 on 10-10 shooting. Mosby also grabbed 11 boards, which was a game high. This is Mosby's second double-double of the year, coming in consecutive games.
Darius Tomlin was the only other player to eclipse the double figures, putting up 11 points. Tomlin and
Christian Hildebrandt both lead the team in assists, with 5 each.
This is Jewell's last non-conference game of the year. GLVC play resumes on January 2, when the team travels to Evansville, Ind., to play the University of Southern Indiana. Jewell is currently 1-0 in GLVC play.
