Box Score 2 The William Jewell Cardinal softball team split a double header at Northeastern State in Tahlequah Okla., on Saturday afternoon. Jewell claimed the victory in game one over Bacone College by a score of 6-0 but dropped game two to Northeastern State, 8-0.
Game one of the afternoon featured the Cardinals scoring all their runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Kelsey Morgan got things started with an RBI single to score
Faith Song in the fourth. Morgan then scored off a single from
Kelsey Teneycke and Jewell plated two more runs in the fourth to go up 4-0. In the fifth Morgan again put Jewell on the board when her fielders choice plated
Rachel Potvin.
Faith Song scored Jewell's final run of the day off an error by the Bacone short stop. The Cardinals were then able to hold on to the lead to take the 6-0 win over the Warriors in game one.
Faith Song earned the win in the circle, moving to 2-3 on the season.
Game two saw a different outcome for the Cards as they fell 8-0 to the Riverhawks of Northeastern State. Northeastern took the early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first and put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the third. The eight run lead was too much for Jewell to overcome as they were shutout for the second time this season.
Morgan Olson and
Megan Barnes collected Jewell's only two hits of the game. Corrine Frei suffered the loss to fall to 0-1 on th year.
Jewel , 3-5 on the year, will head back to the diamond to take on the same two teams tomorrow. The Cards will first take on Northeastern State followed by another matchup with Bacone. The first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at Riverhawks Park.
