Rockhurst University outpitched and outhit William Jewell in a 2-1, 10-0 softball sweep Wednesday in Liberty. Â The two game swing puts the Hawks (11-15, 6-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference) up a game on Jewell (10-14, 5-7) in the GLVC Western Division race.
In game one,
Rachel Hayden took a tough loss, giving up two runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out three. Â The Cardinals could only respond with a single run on a
Kelsey Teneycke  RBI in the fifth inning, as Hayden falls to 5-4 on the season.
Megan Kappler had a double for the Cardinals.
In game two, Rockhurst built a 3-0 lead against losing pitcher
Faith Song through four innings, then exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning on five hits, two walks, two errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball. Â Song, who falls to 4-8 in the circle, was relieved by
Corinne Frei, who struck out the only hitter she faced on three pitches. Â
Jewell had six hits in game two, including a double by Teneycke.
Rockhurst's Alex Jacobsen had two homeruns on the day and drove in six runs.
