Cardinal Softball Splits With Lions Of Missouri Southern

The William Jewell College softball team hosted split a non-conference doubleheader with Missouri Southern State University on Tuesday in Liberty,  Mo.  The Cards fell 3-2 in game one before taking the nightcap 9-8. 

In game one. Jewell scored two runs on five hits in the seven inning game.  The Lions scored two runs in the top of the seventh on an outfield error pushing ahead of the Cardinals 3-2.

Rachel Potvin scored in the third inning after stealing two bases.  The other run came from Kelsey Morgan after hitting her first triple of the season.

Rachel Hayden took her fifth loss of the season and fell to 12-5.

In the second game the Cards were able to hold  on for the 9-8 win over the Lions scoring the nine runs on nine hits.

The first run came for the Cardinals on a homer by Hayden in the first inning.  Potvin stole home in the third inning on a walk by Song.  Song and Hayden both scored on another Kelsey Morgan home run in the third.  Kelsey Teneycke was sent home with a bases loaded walk.  Also in the third, Rachel Hayden's single scored Ashley Creamer and Brittney Madsen homered in the fourth inning, followed by Song in the fifth.

Faith Song was the winning pitcher improving to 7-10 on the season.  Rachel Hayden picked up her first save this season. 

Jewell is now 20-18 on the season and will play at home on Friday April 18 against McKendree University with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
