Cardinal Bats Take Down McKendree Bearcats In Conference Double Header

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The William Jewell Cardinals swept McKendree University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon in Liberty, Mo.

The Cardinals' bats were on fire in the two game series as the Cardinals defeated the Bearcats 6-3 in the first game and 8-5 in the second game.

In the first inning of game one, Jewell jumped out to an early lead as both Ashley Barrett and Rachel Potvin scored on a double by Faith Song.  The second inning brought three more runs for the Cardinals as Kelsey Teneycke scored on a long sacrifice fly from Annalie Dolman and Ashley Barrett scored with bases loaded when Song was hit by a pitch.  Potvin, then walked across the plate when Kelsey Morgan reached first due to an error by the third baseman. The final run for the Cardinals came in the fourth inning from an RBI single by Morgan. 

Rachel Hayden earned the win, improving her record 12-5 on the season.

In game two, the Cards came out on fire scoring five runs in the first inning.  Ashely Barrett made it all the way around on a single from Song.  Hayden then scored on a double by Morgan while Song scored on a single by Madsen.  Tenycke produced an RBI single and Madsen also scored on the play reaching home on an error by the second baseman. In the fifth inning the Cards scored their final three runs.  Morgan scored a run on a Tenycke single and Tenycke made it across on Annali Dolman's double.  Aerin Creamer tallied the final run due to another error by the McKendree second baseman.

Faith Song got the win on the mound and is now 8-10 on the season.

The Cardinals are now 22-18 overall and 17-12 in the GLVC.  Jewell returns to action tomorrow as they host University of Illinois Springfield with first pitch slated for 12:00 p.m.
