Box Score 2 The William Jewell Cardinals Softball team travelled across town to face rival Rockhurst University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks swept the Cardinals in the pair.
In the first contest, the Hawks shut out the Cards 2-0. Both of the Hawks' runs came in the bottom of the fourth, scoring off a squeeze and a wild pitch.
Rachel Hayden tossed a complete game for the Cards in the loss. She gave up two runs (both earned) on six hits and struck out five. The quiet Cardinals offense only managed three hits in the first game.
In the second contest, the Hawks took the victory, 3-1. The Cards struck first in the third when
Aerin Creamer led off with a single.
Ashley Barrett scored her from second on a RBI single to right field. That was the only run that the Cards would get on the day.
The Hawks responded in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs, giving them a 2-1 lead. They added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
Faith Song pitched a complete game in the loss for the Cardinals. She gave up three runs (all earned) on seven hits and struck out one.
Ashley Barrett was 1-2 in the second game with a walk and the only RBI.
The Cardinals (23-21, 15-13 GLVC) will close out their regular season schedule this weekend when they face the University of Missouri-S&T on Saturday and Drury University on Sunday. First pitches are slated for 12:00 p.m. each day.
