Jewell Bats End Rockhurst's Season

Rockhurst University had taken all four regular season games against Jewell going into a showdown in the elimination bracket of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championships in East Peoria, Ill., Friday, but the Cardinals won the game that counted most this year as they kept their season alive with a 7-5 win over the Hawks that ends the Rockhurst season.

Jewell (28-22) will continue play in the tournament Saturday morning in an 11 a.m. CDT matchup against Truman State.

The Cardinals scored five runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth and had 11 hits in the game.  Rockhurst got single runs in the third and fourth innings and two runs in the sixth inning.

Faith Song got the complete game win in the circle and evens her season record at 11-11.  The junior allowed four runs on seven hits, striking out four and working around seven base on balls in the game.  The Cardinals did not commit an error, and turned a double play.

Rachel Hayden and Kelsey Teneycke each had home runs in the game, with Hayden driving in three runs. Brittany Madsen went 3-4 with two doubles and two runs driven in, Ashley Barrett and Rachel Potvin each had two hits, and Barrett and Song each had doubles.
