For the second straight year William Jewell and South Dakota Mines & Technology combined for over 1100 yards of total offense and 106 points during the Cardinal Homecoming game on Saturday at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo. The Hardrockers offense was just a little too much for Jewell to overcome, winning 62-44.
Neither defense could do much to stop the other team, as The Hardrockers struck first with a three-yard quarterback keeper. Jewell struck right back after the kickoff when
Nick West hit Anthony Mullisns for a 60 yard touchdown pass to tie things up a 7-7.
Mines answered back late in the first quarter only to see Jewell tie things up at 14 when West found Mullins again this time from 21 yards out 14 minutes to go until halftime. That is the closest Jewell would get the rest of the way.
The Hardrockers scored three straight unanswered touchdowns before Jewell would score again with 1:17 to play before halftime when West found
Staton Rebeck for a 16 yard score.
Mines led at the half 34-21 and added on to the score with two touchdowns in the third quarter to grab a 48-21 lead. Cornerback
Quinlan Riser opened the fourth quarter with a pick six for Jewell to cut the lead to 48-28. Mines would score three more touchdowns while Jewell picked up two more touchdowns and a safety.
