The William Jewell College men's basketball team continued their stretch of Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Saturday afternoon against Saint Joseph's College, narrowly winning 67-66. This win ended the three game losing streak and puts the Cards at 6-7 (2-3 GLVC).
After a back-and-forth scoring battle during the first 10 minutes of play, Jewell was able to go on 16-0 run to go up 20 to 8 with 8 minutes remaining. The Pumas then went on a 17-4 run to go up 25-24 on the Cards. After each team traded more baskets, the Cardinals went into the locker room leading 32-28 at half.
The second half was very similar to the first; both teams traded baskets until Jewell went on a pivotal 8-0 run with 5 minutes remaining. The Pumas were able to climb back into the game, but the Cardinals were able to hit key free-throws at the end of the game to seal the deal.
The Cardinals were dominant from beyond the arch, draining 10 three's, 6 of which came from the hands of senior
Jordan Lewis. Lewis lead the team with 21 points while
D'Vante Mosby put up 17 points of his own and also grabbed a game high 17 rebounds. This is Mosby's third double-double of the year.
The Cards continue GLVC play as they host Missouri S&T on Thursday, January 15. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
