The William Jewell College men's basketball team took on visiting opponent Maryville University on Thursday night in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Cardinals were able to end a three game losing streak with their 60-49 victory. This win puts the Cards at 8-10 (4-6 GLVC) on the year.
Jewell opened up the game on a 14-7 run only to see the Hounds respond with their own 14-7 run, tying the game at 21. After back-and- forth scoring from both teams, the Hounds were able to pull ahead at halftime, 34-31.
The second half was more back-and-forth buckets for each team. Jewell was then able to go on a key 10-0 run, which ultimately sealed the fate of the game.
Four Jewell players were able to reach double digits in points:
Darius Tomlin (14),
Jordan Lewis (13),
Patrick Whelan (11),
D'Vante Mosby (10). Mosby also led the team in rebounding with 9.
The Cardinals continue their home stand on Saturday, taking on University of Missouri-St. Louis. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
