Truman Stops Jewell's Three Game Winning Streak

The William Jewell College football team had their three game winning streak snapped today by Truman State, 40-28 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play in Liberty.

Truman quarterback Randy Schroeder completed 24-of-38 passes for 258 yards and a touchdown while receiver Joey Schenck snagged 13 receptions for 157 yards to improve the Bulldogs to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in league play.  Truman's running back Andy Satulla, the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week, gained 127 yards rushing on 31 attempts including a clinching touchdown run of 36 yards with under two minutes to play.

Jewell's Anthony Mullins had 9 receptions for a career-high 188 yards and two touchdowns.  Nick West went 32-52 for 393 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, Quayde Bouman had a game-high 10 tackles and had two tackles for losses.

The Cards held Truman to a three and out on the first drive only to give the ball right back to the Bulldogs.  On the Cardinals first play from scrimmage, West threw an interception that set Truman up deep in Cardinal territory.  Jewell held Truman to a field goal of 38 yards for a 3-0 lead.

William Jewell then drove all the way to the Truman 21-yard line but was stopped on a fourth and three.  Again, Jewell forced a Truman punt but Thomas Cook fumbled the ball at the Cardinal two yard line and the Bulldogs recovered and scored two plays later for a 10-0 lead.

Truman then took what looked like a commanding lead on their next possession when Schroeder found Schenck from 15 yards out that put the Bulldogs up 17-0.
Jewell got on the board on the next possession after a 64-yard touchdown pass from West to Mullins.   Satulla put Truman back up 24-7 two drives later as he rushed in from one yard out.

West connected with Mullins again for a huge 50 yard touchdown on the next possession that cut the Bulldog lead to 24-14.  Two drives later Jewell cut the lead to three when West found Bulla Graft from 14 yards out and Truman would lead 24-21 at the half. That would be the closest the Cards would get the rest of the way.

The Bulldogs engineered an impressive 15 play 84 yard opening drive of the third quarter when Jessie Jenkins rushed in from one yard out and put Truman up by ten.  After holding the Cards again Truman added to the lead with a 42 yard field goal to lead 34-21.

The Cardinals scored on their next possession when West found Trejuan Mask from 19 yards out that cut the lead to 34-28 and that score would stand as the game headed into the fourth quarter.

After a Bulldog punt the Cardinals again drove deep in Truman territory only to give the ball back on downs.  Facing a fourth and nine West's pass fell incomplete and Truman took over possession with 7:36 to play.

The Bulldogs put the game away with a 12 play 73 yard drive that ate up 5:54 on the clock and ended when Satulla ran it in from 36 yards out.

The loss evens up the Cardinals GLVC record to 3-3 and 3-5 overall.  Jewell will close out the home portion of their 2015 season as they face defending GLVC champion Indianapolis next Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Liberty.
