UINDY Races to 63-35 Win Over Jewell

The William Jewell College football team set numerous season records in a 63-35 loss over University of Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at Greene Stadium. 

The Cardinals tallied 640 yards of total offense, including a season high 479 yards passing.  UINDY gained 630 yards of offense and scored the most points in 87 years. 

All told, the two teams combined for 1,270 yards.

Three players ran for 50 yards or more for UINDY, led by running back Andrew Walker, who totaled 105 yards and five touchdowns on 17 carries.  Quarterback Conner Barthel was 26-28 for 367 yards with one touchdown. 

Jewell quarterback Nick West set a season high and career high by going 19-33 for 455 yards and four touchdowns.  Wide receiver Anthony Mullins continued his record breaking year with four catches and a season high 199 yards and two touchdowns. 

The Hounds jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Cardinals got on the board with 7:27 left in the opening period on a 67-yard touchdown pass from West to Mullins.  However, UINDY answered back with three unanswered touchdowns to take a 28-7 lead in the second quarter. 

West found Mullins again for another big strike this time from 73 yards out that cut the lead to 28-14.  After another Hounds scoring drive Jewell answered right back this time as Trejuan Mask rushed in from 33-yards out which made the score 35-21.  UINDY again answered with another touchdown and went into halftime up 42-21.

After Jewell got the first touchdown of the second half on a four yard touchdown pass from West to senior wide receiver Nate Egharevba at the 12:31 mark of the third quarter, the Hounds scored three straight touchdowns to push out to a 63-28 lead with 13:18 left in the fourth quarter.
Egharevba added another touchdown when West hit him for a long 64-yard touchdown pass with just over four minutes to play. 

Thomas Cook, led Jewell in rushing with 101 yards on 15 carries and Egharevba hauled in seven passes for a season high 143 yards and two scores. 

Quayde Bauman led the Cardinal defense with seven tackles and a sack. 

Jewell returns to action next Saturday when they close out the GLVC portion of their schedule at Lincoln University with kick off set for 1:00 p.m.
