The William Jewell volleyball team was swept by Maryville in three-sets 25-15, 25-12, 25-14 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action Saturday. The loss drops Jewell to 7-17 overall, 1-10 in the GLVC.
Jewell struggled from the first serve as Maryville jumped out to a 10-5 lead and never looked back and took the set 25-15.
Set two saw the Cardinals battle point-for-point to open before the Saints went on a five point run behind two kills and three Jewell errors. The Cardinals couldn't slow down Maryville's Maddie Timmerman as she racked up six of her game-high 12 kills in the second set.
In the final set Jewell took an early 4-3 lead before Maryville again went on a run headlined by Timmerman and aided by Jewell errors. The lead grew as large as nine points before the Saints closed the match.
As a team the Cardinals hit just .067 on the day led by
Kaylee Marquardt's six kills on 15 attempts.
Stefanie Richterkessing led the team with 14 assists, followed by
Alix Weigel's seven, while
Olivia Tolberd had a team-high 11 digs.
Up next for Jewell is a trip to Wisconsin to take on the Rangers of Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday at 7:00 p.m., followed by a showdown with No. 18 Lewis University on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
