The William Jewell College women's basketball team took on the No. 1 ranked Lewis University Flyers in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Thursday evening.   The Flyers remained unbeaten on the year as they defeated the Cardinals 78-63. 
 
Jewell falls to 11-9 and 6-6 in the GLVC while Lewis improves to 22-0 overall and 12-0 in GLVC play. 
 
The Cards matched the Flyers for the first five minutes of the contest and tied the score 9-9 at the first media timeout. 
 
The Flyers then went on a 11-2 run to go up 20-11 only to see Jewell go on a mini 5-0 run to cut the Lewis lead to four.  Lewis then built a 15 point lead with 5:30 to play in the first half off the strong play of Mariyah Brawner-Henley who scored 14 in the half.  Lewis led the Cards 39-27 at the half.
 
Jewell came out hot in the second half cut the lead to four with 16:30 to play.  Less than two minutes later Lewis built the lead back up to 11 and then built it up to 18 with 7:30 to play and cruised from there. 
 
Chris Keys led the Cardinals with 17 points while Aerial Smith was the only other Cardinal in double figures with 14.  
 
The Cardinals will host The University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, February 7 at 12:00 p.m.
