Box Score 2 The William Jewell College softball team opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Sunday traveling to Evansville, Ind., to take on Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles were able to sweep the Cards winning game one 3-0 and rallying for an 8-6 win in game two.
In game one the Cards had a tough time putting together an offense against opposing Screaming Eagle hurler Brooke Harmening. Harmening tossed a complete game four hit shutout that included five strikeouts.
Game two appeared to be the hands of the Cards as they held a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Jewell scored four in the top of the fifth highlighted by a two-run homerun from
Nona Pauline.
Southern Indiana then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-6 lead and were able to hang on in the seventh to secure the doubleheader sweep.
Nona Pauline fell to 3-2 on the mound for Jewell but also led the Cards with three RBI's.
Faith Song had three hits for Jewell with an RBI and a run scored.
The Cards (7-3, 0-2 GLVC) will head to Louisville, Kentucky to take on Bellarmine University tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. (CDT)
