The William Jewell College baseball team opened a four game Great Lakes Valley Conference weekend series with Lewis on Saturday in Romeoville, Ill. Jewell swept Saturday's double dip winning game one 4-2 and game two 7-1. Jewell improves to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the GLVC.
In game one, the Cards got off to a 2-0 lead on a two run homer from
Jared Patton in the top of the second. Jewell added two more in the top of the fourth which proved to be the difference as the Flyers picked up single runs in the eighth and ninth.
Austin Kretchmar continued to impress tossing a complete game going 9 innings giving up six hits and two runs while striking out four to remain a perfect 5-0 on the year.
The Cards exploded for five runs in the top of the second and never looked back in game two. Jewell then added two in the top of the seventh.
Sam Morman was 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Cards offensively.
Nick Farleigh (2-1) pitched a complete game going seven innings allowing only four hits, and one run while striking out four.
The Cards and Flyers will play another doubleheader on Sunday starting at 12:00 p.m.
