The William Jewell College baseball team won both games of the double-header at Lewis University on Sunday afternoon making it five straight wins for Jewell for a 14-3 overall record and a 7-1 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Cards rallied to win game one 3-2 and bested the Flyers 5-1 in game two. This is the best start to open a season for the Cardinals since entering the GLVC.
Lewis limited Jewell to only three hits in game one and led 2-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning.
Jared Patton had an RBI single and
Zach Tyson's RBI ground out propelled Jewell to a 3-2 lead.
Chris Mancha (4-0) relieved starter
Preston Felgate to earn the win. Mancha limited the flyers to only two hits and one run in 3.2 innings of work.
Billy Kirkpatrick pitched a complete game in game two tossing nine innings giving up only five hits and one run while striking out four. Kirkpatrick improves to 2-0 on the season.
Sam Morman was 2-4 with two RBI's to lead the Cards' offense.
Jewell will host Lincoln University on Wednesday, March 25 at Talley Stadium with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
