Jewell baseball rallied late in the first game of Tuesday's non-conference doubleheader against Lincoln University to win 5-3, then carried the momentum to the second game in winning 17-2 and sweeping the twinbill.
At 16-3 the Cardinals are off to the best start in school history according to head coach
Mike Stockton.
Jewell fell behind Lincoln (1-19) 3-2 in game one, but rallied with a single run in the fifth inning on an RBI by
Jared Patton and took the lead with RBIs by
Luke Lucchetti and
Bryan Rezin in the sixth inning. ,
Tim Miller (2-1) went six innings for the win allowing nine hits, hitting a batter and striking out two. Rezin pitched a perfect seventh inning for the save, his second of the season.
The Cardinals kept the roll going, amassing 17 runs on 18 hits in game two. Rezin (3-3 at the plate) had three RBI,
Sam Morman had three more RBI,
Hunter Brown and
Dane Erbst knocked in two runs each, and
Tyler Carpenter, Dan Bittel and
Brendan Carney each drove in runs for the Cardinals (16-3).
Bryan Porting was 3-3 with two walks and five runs scored.
Dylan Pollock got his first win of the season with four innings of work, allowing one run on five hits.
Michael Hayes,
Zach Hutcherson and
Andrew Miller all pitched an inning in the game.
The Cardinals have won seven in a row, and return to Great Lakes Valley Conference play Saturday and Sunday with doubleheaders against Truman State starting at noon.
