Jewell Baseball Splits Home GLVC Doubleheader With Truman

The William Jewell College baseball team split a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader with Truman State University on Saturday afternoon at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo.  Jewell rallied to win game one 4-3 but fell 6-5 in game two.

The Cards overcame a three run deficit in game one thanks to two clutch two-run home runs.  In the bottom of the eighth Jewell trailed 3-0 when Hunter Brown cut the lead to 3-2 when he smacked a two run homer that scored Bryan Rezin

In the bottom of the ninth Luke Lucchetti hit a walk-off home run with one out to earn the game one victory. You can watch his dramatic homerun, and the basehit by Coleman Waheed that preceeded it, in the video posted above.

Austin Kretchmar (6-0) remained perfect on the season tossing a complete game giving up 13 hits, and three runs while striking out four.

Game two saw the Cardinals jump out to a three run lead with single runs in the first, second and third.  Truman then answered back with two in the fourth and four in the sixth to take a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.  The Cards made it interesting scoring two runs to cut the lead to 6-5 but Truman was able to hold on for the one run win.

Nick Farleigh(2-2) took the loss going all seven innings giving up 13 hits,  six runs (four earned) and struck out four Bulldog batters.

Jewell, 17-4 and 8-2 in GLVC play, will continue the four game set with Truman with another doubleheader on Sunday with game one starting at 12:00 p.m.
