The William Jewell College baseball team split a doubleheader with University of Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday afternoon in St. Louis, Mo. UMSL took game one 8-5 only to see the Cards take game two 7-2.
The split moves Jewell to 24-8 overall and 15-6 in the GLVC while the Tritons move to 17-9 overall and 12-9 in GLVC play.
In game one, UMSL jumped all over Jewell starter
Billy Kirkpatrick (4-2) scoring four in the first and one in the second to take a commanding 5-0 lead. Jewell was able to cut the lead to 5-3 with two in the fourth and one in the fifth but UMSL put the game away with two in the bottom of the fifth.
Coleman Waheed led the offense in game one going 1-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.
In game two, it was the Cards who jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the second keyed by a single from
Sam Morman that plated two.
Preston Felgate (2-0) earned the win tossing five innings while
Chris Mancha earned his first save of the season hurling four innings of relief only giving up two hits while striking out four.
Jewell will conclude their four game series with UMSL tomorrow with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m.
