The William Jewell College baseball team returned home to Talley Stadium after being on the road the last two weeks. The Cards hosted Rockhurst University in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader and dominated game one 10-4 before taking game two 9-6.
Jewell improves to 26-9 overall and 17-7 in the GLVC while Rockhurst falls to 17-21 and 9-15 in the GLVC.
Game one saw the Cards offense take off with 16 hits scoring two in the first, four in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth.
After Jewell took an early 2-0 lead Rockhurst scored 3 unearned runs off two Cardinal errors to lead 3-2. Jewell would retake the lead in the second and never look back.
Sam Morman led the Cards going a perfect 4-4 with two runs scored and two RBI's.
Coleman Waheed also had two RBI's along with
Jared Patton who hit a two run homerun.
Dane Erbst was 3-3 with two runs scored for Jewell.
Billy Kirkpatrick (4-1) earned the win in relief of
Austin Kretchmar. Kirkpatrick tossed 3.2 innings only giving up two hits.
Rockhurst jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in game two only to see the Cardinals answer back with one in the first and four in the second. Lucchetti and Hunter
Brown each drove home two runs in the second. Jewell tacked on two more in the fourth when Morman drove in two with a single that gave the Cards a 7-3 lead.
Rockhurst scored three in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 7-6. Lucchetti battled in an eleven pitch at bat in the bottom of the sixth to plate home
Bryan Porting that gave the Cards an 8-6 and Jewell added another run in the seventh as insurance.
Lucchetti finished the game 5-5 with three runs scored and three RBI's while Brown and Morman each drove in a pair.
Chris Mancha earned the win in relief of
Dylan Pollock. Mancha (5-1) hurled 3.2 innings of relief only giving up one hit. Rezin came in and earned his third save of the season for Jewell.
The Cardinals will host Maryville University for a four game series this weekend starting Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
