The William Jewell College baseball team wrapped up a four game series with Maryville University on Sunday. The Saints were able to sweep a doubleheader with a pair of one run victories taking game one 2-1 and game two 3-2.
Jewell falls to 28-11 overall and 19-9 in GLVC play.
In game one the Cardinals tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth only to see Maryville produce the winning 2-1 margin with solo homerun in the top of the sixth.
Dylan Pollock (3-2) took the loss in relief of
Austin Kretchmar. Pollock tossed five innings giving up five hits and one run.
In game two, the Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead with single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings respectively. The Cards plated two in the bottom of the ninth but were unable to tie the game and Maryville held on for the 3-2 win to earn the weekend split.
Billy Kirkpatrick (4-2) was saddled with the loss going six innings giving up seven hits and three runs.
The Cardinals will host Southwest Baptist University on Tuesday, April 21 at Talley Stadium. First pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
