The William Jewell Cardinal baseball team took on Southwest Baptist University in a non-conference matchup today at Talley Stadium in Liberty. Jewell dominated game one by a score of 14-4 and were able to edge the Bearcats 3-2 in the nightcap.
Game one saw the Cardinals explode offensively and led 9-1 after three innings.
Andrew Miller and Same Morman led the offense as each hit three-run homeruns. Miller finished 4-4 with two runs scored and four RBI's.
Tim Miller earned the win on the mound to improve to 3-2 overall. He threw six innings only giving up four hits and one run while striking out two.
Game two, was a much closer affair with the Cards scoring single runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings respectively.
SBU scored one in the top of the seventh and had runners at second and third with one out before the Cardinals shut the door on the rally.
Andrew Miller continued his hot streak by going 3-3 and with a run and an RBI. Miller finished the doubleheader a perfect 7-7.
Chris Mancha (6-1) earned the win in relief of Miller.
Bryan Rezin earned his fourth save of the season as he was able to escape trouble in the seventh.
The Cardinals will resume Great Lakes Valley Conference play as they travel to Rolla, Mo., on Saturday to begin a four game series with Missouri S&T. First pitch for both days are set for 12:00 p.m.
