The William Jewell College baseball team took two from Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Missouri S&T on Sunday and was able to win three out of four this weekend in Rolla, Mo. Jewell took game one today 5-1 and game two 5-3.
Austin Kretchmar (8-1) got back on the winning track pitching a gem in game one. Kretchmar tossed a complete game going seven strong giving up six hits and one run while striking out nine Miners on the afternoon.
Bryan Porting and
Bryan Rezin led the offense with two RBI's a piece.
Game two turned into a pitchers dual as the score was 2-2 heading into the top of the seventh. After scoring one in the frame,
Luke Lucchetti's two out two-run triple helped Jewell take a 5-2 lead and the Cards were able to hang on for the 5-3 win with a strong pitching performance from
Billy Kirkpatrick and
Chris Mancha. Mancha earned the win in relief of Kirkpatrick his seventh victory of the season.
With the sweep Jewell remains one game back of Quincy University for first place in the GLVC Western Division.
The Cardinals (33-12, 22-10 GLVC) will travel to Wichita, Kan., on Wednesday, April 29 to take on Newman University in a non-conference matchup before wrapping up the 2015 regular season at home against Drury University next Saturday and Sunday.
