The William Jewel l volleyball team fell to 4-7 overall and 0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference on Saturday after dropping a three set match to Southern Indiana, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-10.
Set one was a back and forth affair with neither team grabbing more than a three point lead until late in the set when USI jumped out in front 23-17. The Cardinals would battle back but fall 25-20.
Set two again started with the two teams trading points before the Screaming Eagles went on a run and jumped out in front 19-13. Jewell would again put together a late set push before falling.
Set three was a bit wild for Jewell as USI jumped out to an early lead and did not look back. With the Screaming Eagles up 18-8, primary setter
Alix Weigel went down with an injury. With secondary setter
Stefanie Richterkessing having switched to the libero uniform for the final set,
Amy Lindhorst stepped into the role and filled in nicely before exiting herself with yet another injury. The Cardinals would score just once more before USI secured the match.
As a team Jewell hit as well as they have all season in the first two sets before falling into the negatives in set three.
Grace Miller and
Raechel Meisinger each posted eight kills to lead the Cardinals while
Paige Cunningham followed with seven. Richterkessing led Jewell with 13 digs while
