The William Jewell volleyball team closed the Alabama Huntsville Tournament with a split on Saturday. The Cardinals fell to Ouachita Baptist 3-1 before gaining their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Southern Arkansas to move to 1-3 on the young season.

In the first game of the day Jewell dropped a four-set match to Ouachita Baptist 22-25, 19-25, 25-21, 14-25.
Raechel Meisinger posted a team-best 12 kills and four aces while
Grace Miller put in ten kills and five blocks. Sophomore setter
Alix Weigel added 34 assists to go along with 11 digs.
Kelsey Wagner and
Olivia Tolberd also grabbed ten digs a piece. Â Â

In the final game of the weekend the Cardinals topped Southern Arkansas 3-1 by scores of 28-26, 23-25, 29-27, and 25-15. Through the first three sets there were 33 ties and 15 lead changes. In the final set Jewell broke out to a 10 point lead and never relinquished it. Â
Meisinger, who posted double-digit kills in all four games over the weekend, had game-high 19 kills to go along with 13 digs. Tolberd also posted a game-high 17 digs while Wagner added 12 along with four aces. Weigel put in 41 assists on the match, for a third consecutive game with a career-high total. Miller dominated the net with nine kills and eight blocks while
Emily Burton also chipped in nine kills.
After starting the weekend with a -.048 hitting percentage Jewell showed improvement each time out and posted their highest of the weekend against Southern Arkansas at .207.
The Cardinals will have a week off before traveling to the Southeastern Oklahoma/East Central Tournament for four matches beginning Friday, September 11 at 9:00 a.m. against Cameron.
