The William Jewell men's and women's track and field teams returned from the holiday break as they traveled to Columbia, Mo. to take part in the Missouri Invitational on Friday.
On the women's side, junior
Gretchen Mayes highlighted the day for the Cardinals as she not only reached a provisional qualifying mark but also set a William Jewell record in the long jump after hitting the 5.66 meter mark. Mayes also finished fifth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.41.
The Cardinals grabbed four other top seven finishes led by
Margaret Perko's fifth place mark in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.19.
Elaine Barella was seventh in the 800 meter run, finishing at 2:41.53 while a combination of Perko, Mayes,
Julia Parker, and
Jessica Goldsberry placed sixth in the 4x400 meter relay. In the field events, freshman
Talia Zook grabbed sixth place in the shot put at 11.20 meters.
For the men, junior
Blake Alexander also hit a provisional qualifying mark as he finished third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.26.
Alec Whiteside was also fifth in the men's weight throw, finishing at 16.29.
The Cardinals are off until January 29 when they will travel to the Pittsburg State Invitational.
