The William Jewell College men's basketball team advanced today in the Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament with a 76-58 win over Tuskegee University.
Jewell trailed 3-2 but went on a 13-4 run and never trailed again.
The Cardinals shot a blistering 62 percent from the field in the first half and 55 percent from three-point land, which helped them build a commanding 42-27 lead at halftime.
Tuskegee cut the lead to seven with 10:55 to play but Jewell turned up the heat and built a lead as big as 20 and cruised to the 76-58 win.
Patrick Whelan continued his strong start to the season scoring 19 points pulling down four rebounds.
Larry Fitzgerald (13),
Matt Lassen (12) and
Jorge Perez-Laham (11) were the other Cardinals to hit double figures.
The Cardinals (3-1) advance to the Championship game where they will take on the winner of Florida Tech and Bluefield State tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. est.
