Cardinals Unable to Stop High Powered Cameron Offense and Fall Twice

The William Jewell baseball team matched up with Cameron University for a double-header on Saturday afternoon in Lawton, Okla. where the Cardinals fell twice by scores of 16-7 and 11-1 to fall to 0-3 on the young season. The Aggies, playing in midseason form, move to 10-0 on the year. 

In the opener Cameron rapped out 23 hits including four home runs to put up their 16 runs. The Cardinals jumped on the board first as Dane Erbst singled to score Coleman Waheed and Dylan Christie who had doubled. The Aggies responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame.

Cameron added three runs in the second and four more in the third before Jewell scored again. Jesse Gray tripled to score Matej Sucha, then later scored himself on a groundout. 

The Aggies tacked on five more runs over the following three innings before Erbst hit a three-run home run to bring the game to the final margin of 16-7. 

The Cardinals managed eight hits off Cameron pitching led by two from Erbst to along with his five RBI.

Austin Kretchmar (0-1) took the loss on the hill, allowing ten runs on 12 hits while striking out three. 

In game two the Cardinal offense lost its steam scoring just one run in the top of the seventh inning as Tanner Foerscher grounded out to second base, scoring Andrew Miller. On the other side the Aggies scored in five of the eight innings. 

Jewell was limited to five hits in the nightcap, including two from Miller, and one a piece from Erbst, Gray, and Garrett McKinzie.

Dylan Pollock (0-1) took the loss going four innings and allowing five runs on nine hits. Zach Hutcherson went 2.2 innings, allowing four unearned runs while striking out six.

The Cardinals and Aggies will finish the four-game series on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
