The William Jewell College men's basketball team came up just short in their upset bid over Lewis University falling 93-89 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at Neil Carey Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals came alive from three point land to aid their cause. Jewell drained 16 of 34 three's led by
Patrick Whelan's five three's.Â
Whelan led Jewell with 23 points and
Larry Fitzgerald finished with 20 and Javier DeLeBlanca poured in 19 points off the bench.Â
With the loss, Jewell drops their fourth straight and falls to 7-14 and 2-11 in conference play. Lewis moves to 17-6 overall and 9-4 in league play.Â
Flyers guard Capel Henshaw led the team with 15 points, while freshman guard Delaney Blaylock earned a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 The Cardinals returns to action on Thursday February 11, as they host Saint Joseph's College in Liberty. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
