The William Jewell College baseball team ended a two game losing skid with a sweep of McKendree University on Friday in Lebanon, Ill. Jewell shutout the Bearcats 7-0 in game one and took the night cap by a score of 7-4. With the sweep the William Jewell improves to 8-6 on the season.
In game one the Cardinals used a strong pitching performance from senior
Austin Kretchmar (2-1) who tossed 8 innings only giving up four hits while striking out three.
Andrew Miller led the Cardinal offense going 3-5 with two RBI's while
Garrett McKinzie, Drew Standifer and
Brendan Carney also had three hits for Jewell.
Game two saw the Cardinals jump out to a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third. Jewell led 3-1 before taking on three more runs in the top of the fourth to take a commanding 6-1 lead.
Billy Kirkpatrick earned his third win of the season with no losses. Kirkpatrick hurled five solid innings giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out three.
Miller continued his hot hitting going 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Cardinals return home to host Washburn University in a nine-inning contest on Wednesday, March 16. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
