Jewell Wins Fourth Straight 5-3 Over Bemidji State

The William Jewell Cardinals continued action over spring today hosting Bemidji State University at Talley Stadium on the Jewell campus in Liberty, Mo.   The Cards took the game 5-3 and have now won four straight to improve to 10-6 while the Beavers fall to 3-13.

Bemidji State got off to a good start and took an early lead with a single run in the second.

Jewell then struck for three runs in the bottom of the third.  The inning began with a single by Brendan CarneyZach Tyson came up and failed to lay down a bunt but came up with a line drive single in the gap between right and center that moved Carney to third.   Tanner Foerschler drove home Carney with a sacrifice fly and Drew
Standifer followed with a single before moving to second on a wild pitch that scored Tyson.   McKinzie then drove home Standifer with a single for the third and final run of the inning.

The Beavers tied the game in the top of the sixth off two hits and an error and the score remained tied at three going to the eighth.
Dylan Christie came in to pitch in the top of the eighth and retired the Beavers.  Christie then followed that up with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the frame to put Jewell up 5-3.

Christie then retired the first two batters in the top of the ninth before giving up two hits and had runners on first and third with two outs but was able to get the final Beaver to fly out to center field to earn his first victory of the season.   Christie finished with two innings pitched and had two strikeouts.

Tyson finished the day 2-4 and Christie led Jewell with two RBI's.

Garrett Smith started on the hill and tossed six innings giving up seven hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out five.

The Cardinals return to action tomorrow for a three game series with University of Wisconsin-Parkside with first pitch set for 2:00 p.m.
