Late Rally Propels Cardinals to Sixth Straight Win

On a cold slightly snowy Saturday afternoon, the William Jewell Cardinal baseball team hosted the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in game two of their three game set.  The Cards used a late rally to win 6-3 and have now won 6 straight and have now won 12 of their last 14 games.  Jewell moves to 12-6 overall while Wisconsin-Parkside falls to 3-7.

Parkside got an early lead by plating two runs in the top of the second inning.  They added another single run in the top of the seventh and looked to be crusing behind a solid effort from pitcher Mario Samuel who tossed six innings only giving up two hits.

In the bottom of the seventh the Cardinals were finally able to get to Samuel.  They loaded the bases with one out and Jewell's Garrett McKinzie drew a walk to score Jewell's first run.  Dane Erbst's soft single to short scored Jewell's second run of the game and went to the eighth down 3-2.

In the bottom of the eighth the Cardinals first two batters reached and after a sacrifice bunt Jewell had runners at second and third.  Brendan Carney then laced a single to centerfield that scored the two runners and gave Jewell their first lead of the game 4-3.   After two more batters reached, Erbst launched a two run triple to right center to increase the lead to 6-3.

Chris Mancha came in and recorded three outs for his second save of the season.    Dalton Gulick relieved starter Billy Kirkpatrick and picked up his first win of 2016.

Erbst led the offensive going two for five with three RBI's.  Carney went two for four with two RBI's and two runs scored.

The Cardinals will wrap up the series with Parkside tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
