The William Jewell College track and field teams took part in the Wendy's/Pittsburg State Invitational on Friday afternoon in Pittsburg, Kan.
On the women's side, Junior
Gretchen Mayes broke the school record in 200 meters with a time of 25.51, to finish eighth. Senior Jessica Goldberry also placed third in the 400 meter run, clocking in at 57.87.
For the men,
Blake Alexander won the 60 hurles with a provisional qualifying time of 14.28 seconds.
Alec Whiteside was the runner-up in the hammer throw, also with a provisional qualifying mark of 56.17 meters. Alexander and Whiteside are both ranked in the top ten nationally in their respectively events.
In other new, freshman Graham Butcher is at Northwest Missouri State competing in the men's decathlon where on Friday he set a personal best in the 400 meters.
The men's and women's teams will next compete at the Emporia State Relays on April 2, in Emporia, Kan.
