Led by a four-RBI performance from junior catcher
Garrett McKinzie, the William Jewell College baseball offense exploded for 18 runs on Tuesday afternoon in an 18-8 win against MidAmerica Nazarene University at Talley Stadium on the Jewell Campus. The win brought the Cardinals' record to 17-7 on the season, while the Pioneers dropped to 21-6.
McKinzie is now batting a team-best .393 this season and leads all Cardinals with five homeruns and, 27 RBIs.
Junior
Drew Standifer added a three-for-four performance at the plate with two RBIs and four runs scored, while senior
Jesse Gray broke out with a two-for three day, driving in one and scoring four runs.
Jewell jumped out to a 15-1 lead after five innings, before the Pioneers battled back against starter
Dylan Pollock and reliever
Michael Hayes. Pollock (3-1) earned the win after allowing four runs on ten hits and five strikeouts over 5 and 2/3 innings of work.
Jewell will return back to Great Lakes Valley Conference action with a four-game series against University of Missouri-St. Louis this weekend, with games scheduled for 12:00 PM on Friday, April 1 and 12:00 PM on Sunday, April 2 at Talley Stadium in Liberty, Mo.
