Box Score 2 The William Jewell College baseball team returned to Great Lakes Valley play today as they opened up a four game series with University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Jewell swept the Saturday double dip 1-0 and 3-2 to improve to 19-7 overall and 5-1 in GLVC play.
In game one, the Cardinals used a dominant pitching performance from senior
Austin Kretchmar to squeak by the Tritons 1-0.
Kretchmar (5-1) fired a complete game shutout while only giving up three hits and one walk while striking out two.
Drew Standifer and
Dylan Christie were the only Cards with two hits on the game.
UMSL's Kurt McGuire was equally as impressive as he threw 6 2/3 innings giving up seven hits, one run and two walks but did strikeout 7 Cardinals on the game.
Game two was equally close with both teams scoring two runs in the third inning. The score remained tied 2-2 heading to the bottom of the seventh. After Jewell loaded the bases
Dane Erbst singled to score
Coleman Waheed for the walk off win.
Erbst finished the game two for four with all three RBI's while
Dylan Christie and
Jesse Gray each had three hits.
Billy Kirkpatrick pitched a solid six innings giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out five.
Chris Mancha earned the win in relief his second win of the season.
The Cardinals will wrap up the four game set with UMSL tomorrow with another doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
