Jewell Sweeps GLVC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – William Jewell College junior hurdler Blake Alexander and Saint Joseph's College sophomore jumper Phil Thompson have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, it was announced Thursday by the Conference office. On the women's side, Cardinal junior Gretchen Mayes and Missouri S&T sophomore mulit-event specialist Camillie Baker have been named the GLVC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Alexander won the 110-meter hurdles at the Wendy's/PSU Invite on Saturday in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 14.28 seconds.  That mark currently ranks him first in the GLVC and 6th in Division II.  He also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles, running 54.78, which also ranks first in the GLVC.

The Stafford, Missouri, native is the first-ever William Jewell outdoor male honoree.

Mayes placed seventh in the 100 meters with a time of 12.28 seconds at the Wendy's Invitational, held this past Saturday on the campus of Pittsburg State.  That effort ranks first on the GLVC performance list.  Mayes also finished eighth in the 200 meters with a school-record time of 25.51 seconds, which ranks her fourth in the GLVC.

The Lathrop, Missouri, native is the first-ever Cardinal to earn a women's weekly honor in the outdoor season.
