The William Jewell College baseball team wrapped up their four game series with Drury University on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.
The Panthers rallied for a walk off win in game one 5-4 while the Cardinals' offense exploded for a 15-0 blowout in game two. Jewell improves to 21-12 overall and 7-5 in GLVC play.Â
Game one saw Drury jump out to a 2-0 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Jewell wasted no time in tying things up with two runs of their own in the top of the second. Â
Dane Erbsts' two-run homerun in the top of the fifth gave Jewell a 4-2 lead before Drury scored a single run in the bottom of the frame.
The Cardinals led 4-3 heading into the seventh and final inning and sent pitcher
Chris Mancha into close the game. Mancha allowed a lead-off walk and a single to start the inning. After an out and an intentional walk Drury catcher Devan O'Bryan laced a double that scored the winning run and gave Drury the 5-4 walk-off win.Â
Erbst led the offense in game one going 2-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs scored.Â
Brendan Beatty started on the mound for Jewell going five innings giving up 8 hits, and three runs while striking out four.
In game two, the Cardinals scored a single run in the first then took command of the game with a six run third highlighted by a three-run double from
Jesse Gray.  Â
The Cardinals added four more runs in the sixth with
Garrett McKinzie coming up with a two-run double and in the seventh
Andrew Miller got in on the action with a three-run double of his own.Â
All told, the Cardinals had twelve hits in the game with Miller going 2-for-4 with four RBI's while Gray also had four RBI's for Jewell.Â
Drew Standifer was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and
Tanner Foerschler and
Tyler Carpenter collected two hits respectively.Â
Garret Smith (2-1) picked up the win going six innings giving up five hits while striking out six.
The Cardinals will host Newman University on Wednesday, April 13 with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
