The William Jewell College baseball team wrapped up their four game set with University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday afternoon at Talley Stadium.
The Tritons avenged yesterday's doubleheader sweep with a doubleheader sweep of their own on Sunday. UMSL took game one 7-4.and game two 12-9. The Loss drops the Cards to 19-9 overall and 5-3 in the GLVC.
In the first game, UMSL jumped on top of the Cardinals 3-0 with a single run in the first and two in the third. Jewell responded with a four run bottom of the third keyed by a two-run double from
Andrew Miller.
The Tritons then iced the game with a four run sixth inning to win 7-4.
Zach Hutcherson (2-2) took the loss in relief of starter
Brendan Beatty.
Kyle Wilson (2-0) got the win for UMSL tossing five innings.
Offensively, Miller was one for four with two RBI's while
Garrett McKinzie,
Dylan Christie and
Jesse Gray all had two hits.
In game two, the Tritons jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Jewell responded with two in the bottom of the frame thanks to a two-run homerun from McKinzie. Jewell scored three times in the bottom of the second to take a 5-3 lead.
The Tritons' offense then woke up and scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth to take command of the game.
Dylan Pollock (2-3) took the loss in relief of Garrett Smith. Smith pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up eight hits and six runs.
McKinzie continues to perform at the plate as he went a perfect five for five with four runs scored and five RBI's. He currently is hitting a team leading .427 with seven homeruns and 33 RBI's on the year.
The Cardinals will travel to Wichita, Kan., on Wednesday, April 6 to take on Newman in a nine-inning game. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
