Miller Earns Drug Free Sport Award

William Jewell College Director of Sports Medicine Charlie Miller was one of three honorees named as a 2016 Drug Free Sport Continuing Education Recipient.  In honor of the work that high school and collegiate certified athletic trainers perform to prevent drug abuse and to ensure fair and safe sport, The National Center for Drug Free Sport® (Drug Free Sport®) established the Drug Free Sport Continuing Education Award in 2010.

2016 Drug Free Sport Continuing Education Award Recipients (in alphabetical order):

  • Heath Duncan, Head Athletic Trainer, Alderson Broaddus University.

  • Lauren Ey, Head Athletic Trainer, The Catholic High School of Baltimore.

  • Charlie Miller, Head Athletic Trainer/Director of Sports Medicine, William Jewell College.

    "Athletic trainers are important members of the drug-prevention team," said Frank Uryasz, founder and CEO of Drug Free Sport. "The men and women who applied for and were awarded continuing education funds are responsible for educating and advising the future leaders of sport and society. We're delighted to continue to contribute toward this important endeavor."

    The judging committee for the awards is comprised of a diverse group of sport drug testing professionals and athletic trainers, as well as a former award recipient. Including this year's awards of $1,000 to each recipient, Drug Free Sport has provided more than $23,000 in continuing education funds toward certified athletic trainers in high schools, colleges and universities across the United States.
