The William Jewell College men's basketball team fell to Missouri S&T on Saturday afternoon on the road by the score of 90-83. The Cardinals led by two at the half in the Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup, but S&T went on a 21-10 run at the start of second half and never trailed the rest of the way.
The Jewell men continued to be led by junior guard
Patrick Whelan. Whelan led all scores with 26 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Matt Lassen followed up with 20 points including five three-pointers.
Jorge Perez-Laham and
Larry Fitzgerald also scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
The Cardinals held S&T to only 28 percent shooting in the first half. The Miners free throws kept them close throughout the first half as they stole 11 points from the line. S&T found their shot in the second half as they shot 52.9 percent.
The Miners had five players score in double figures led by Randy Holmes who recorded a double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Rokas Paulauskas recorded his own double-double after putting up 12 points and 10 boards.
Jewell is now 4-12 overall and 0-8 in league play while S&T improves to 8-8 over and 2-7 in the GLVC.
The Cardinals hope to rebound from this afternoon's loss on Thursday when they face off against Maryville University at 7:30 pm in the Mabee Center.
