The William Jewell volleyball team was swept on the road on Friday evening at the hands of McKendree University by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-18. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 8-15 overall and 2-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SET ONE: The Cardinals fell behind by as many as nine in the opening set before going on a 6-2 run, capped by two kills from Elizabeth Quinn, to pull within five at 22-17. The Bearcats scored the next three points to pull away for the 25-17 win.Â
- SET TWO: The Bearcats jumped out to an early lead until the Cards went on a 5-1 run, including three service aces, to pull within one at 13-12. With Jewell trailing by just three at 22-19, McKendree posted three consecutive kills to take the 25-19 win.Â
- SET THREE: The Cardinals held strong for the first half of the set until a 4-0 spurt by McKendree put them ahead by six at 15-9. A kill from the Bearcats' Elle Russell sealed the set 25-18.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals held McKendree well below their season average .202 attack percentage at .156. However, Jewell managed just a .010 clip themselves.Â
- The two teams combined for 18 total blocks in the three sets.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
- Quinn topped the Cardinals with 11 kills on a team best .280 attack percentage.
- Alix Weigel and Megan Rhule each collected nine assists while Olivia Tolberd added five.Â
- Tolberd also led Jewell with 13 digs.Â
- Senior Madeline Johnson posted a game-high seven blocks.Â
