Jewell Earns GLVC Road Win Over Maryville

The William Jewell volleyball team topped Maryville on the road on Saturday afternoon 3-1 by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 25-15. With the win the Cardinals move to 9-15 overall and 3-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • SET ONE: The Cardinals started slowly, trailing the Saints by as many as three before using a 7-1 run to take a 15-12 advantage. With the score 22-18 in favor of Jewell, the Saints made an error before back-to-back kills from Elizabeth Quinn sealed the set 25-18. 
  • SET TWO: Trailing 16-13 in the second set, the Cardinals went on a run scoring 12 of the next 15 points to take the set 25-19. Lacey Albers ended things in style with back-to-back aces to give Jewell a 2-0 advantage going into the break. 
  • SET THREE: Jewell stumbled in the third set, trailing by as many as eight before dropping the set 25-19. 
  • SET FOUR: In the finale, the Cardinals grabbed an 11-10 lead and never looked back. Led by four kills from Quinn, Jewell took the set 25-15 and the match 3-1. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • The Cardinals posted 64 kills while holding Maryville to just 33 on a .130 attack percentage. 
  • Jewell collected eight service aces, the second highest total this season.

LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
  • Three players reached double figures in kills led by Quinn with 16. Raechel Meisinger collected a season-best 12 while Grace Miller added 11. In total 11 different players recorded a kill on the night. 
  • Miller led the way for Jewell with a .529 attack percentage on 17 attempts. 
  • Five different Cardinals recorded an assist led by Alix Weigel's 25. Megan Rhule collected 21 and Olivia Tolberd 11. 
  • Tolberd also led four players in double digits with 26 digs, while Codi Winslow added 15, Mary Booton 13, and Rhule 11. 
  • Albers topped the Cards with five aces and three blocks.

YOU SHOULD NOTE
  • Five different players set at least one new career high in the win:
    • Booton - 10 digs
    • Rhule - 11 digs
    • Tolberd - 11 assists
    • Quinn - 16 kills, 6 digs, 2 assists
    • Albers - 5 aces

UP NEXT
After a nearly month long road trip, the Cardinals return home next weekend as they play host to Southern Indiana on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. followed by a match up with Bellarmine on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Friday's game with the Screaming Eagles can be seen live on the GLVC Sports Network.
