The William Jewell College football team returned home after a two game road trip to host Truman State University this evening in Great Lakes Valley Conference action. The Bulldogs of Truman scored 10 unanswered points late in the game to defeat the Cardinals 24-14. The Cardinals fall to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in GLVC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1Q (10:58) The Bulldogs started the game with an 8 play drive that went 71 yards and was capped off by a touchdown from running back Jordan Salima.
1Q (10:05) Jewell immediately responded on their second play of the game when quarterback
Brad Strauss hit
Wyatt Miller in stride who took it 70 yards for the score.
1Q (1:22) Truman fullback Hayden Holt plowed in from the one to and gave the Bulldogs a lead of 14-7 that lasted the rest of the half.
3Q (6:00) Strauss hit running back
Chance Nelson on a screen pass and Nelson found the endzone from 24 yards away the Cardinals tied the game 14-14.
3Q (1:48) Bulldog kicker Danny Spencer atoned for an earlier miss by connecting on a 31 yard field goal that put Truman up 17-14.
4Q (1:22) Malique Robbins sealed the game for Truman when he rushed in from five yards out to give Truman the winning margin of 24-14.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
Strauss was 27 of 37 for 340 yards and two scores while
Wyatt Miller earned his first 100 yard receiving game of his career hauling in 5 catches for 108 yards and a touchdown.
Orlando Ward led Jewell in tackles with 11 and
Gabe Chavez came up with his first interception of the season.
TURNING POINT
Trailing 14-7, the Cardinals drove the field and had first and goal at the Truman one yard line but fumbled the snap and the Bulldogs recovered. Jewell was able to get the ball back six plays later on an interception by Chavez. Jewell advanced to the Truman three-yard line but was stopped on four straight plays losing three yards.

Ward led the Cardinal defense in tackles for the first time this season.
