The William Jewell College football team fell 42-3 to No. 6 University of Indianapolis today in the 2017 home finale at Greene Stadium. The Cardinals fall to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action while UIndy improves to 9-0 and 6-0 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1Q (8:58) The Cardinals struck first as they went on an 8 play drive that took 6:02 off the clock but had to settle for a
Dalton Dye 21-yard field goal and led 3-0.
1Q (5:15) Al McKeller put UIndy on the board with a 45-yard scamper and the Greyhounds led 7-3 after the PAT.
2Q (13:29) Garret Willis took a five yard pass from quarterback Jake Purichia and found the endzone and UIndy led 14-3 at the half.
3Q (12:32) McKeller scored again this time from two yards away and the Greyhounds increased their lead 21-3.
3Q (3:30) Malik Higgins caught a five yard touchdown pass from Purichia and UIndy built a 28-3 lead.
4Q (12:46) Purichia found Garrett Willis from 19 yards away on 3rd and 15 to increase the lead 35-3.
4Q (8:19) Tuwan Payton rushed in from 28 yards which produced the final 42-3 score.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
Senior Brad Straus was 19 of 35 for 169 yards while
Trejuan Mask led the Cards in rushing with 70 yards on 12 carries.
Keelon Vann hauled in four catches for 37 yards to lead the receiving corps.
Jack Gordon led the defense with 10 tackles while
Quayde Bauman had six.
TURNING POINT
Trailing 14-3 in the second quarter the Cardinals went on a 16-play drive and converted three fourth downs but could not convert on 4th and 7 from the UIndy 41 yard line.
WHAT'S NEXT
Jewell will begin a two game road trip to end the season. The Cardinals will travel next Saturday to Jefferson City, Mo., to close out the GLVC portion of their season as they take on Lincoln University at 1:00 p.m.
