The William Jewell volleyball team blanked Bellarmine University 3-0 this afternoon in the Mabee Center by scores of 25-19, 27-25, and 25-21. The win moves the Cardinals to 10-16 overall and 4-9 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play. Bellarmine, who received votes in the top 25 volleyball poll last week, falls to 19-6 overall and 9-4 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE: Jewell and Bellarmine were tied 14-14 when the Cardinals went on a 9-5 run to take the set 25-19. The Cards held the Knights to a .024 attack percentage in set one.
SET TWO: The action went back and forth in set two and Bellarmine had set point up 25-24 before
Jenna Rau's kill fueled a 3-0 run to take set two.
SET THREE: After the intermission, the Cardinals once again rallied from a deficit. The Knights came out leading 4-1 and 6-3 before Jewell pulled even at 12-12. From there the score went back and forth and with the set tied 20-20 Jewell closed out the set on a 5-1 run to win the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Cardinals hit just .220 compared to .159 by Bellarmine.
Overall the Cardinals had 47 kills while the Knights had 39.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
Paige Cunningham led the Cardinals with 12 kills while
Raechel Meisinger added 9.
Alix Weigel had 21 assists and
Megan Rhule added 18.
Defensively,
Olivia Tolberd collected 16 digs while
Codi Winslow had 15 and
Alix Weigel contributed 11.
