The William Jewell men's basketball closed out the GLVC/GLIAC Classic with a dominating 113-72 win over Purdue Northwest on Saturday afternoon in Westville, Ind.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 1st Half: The Cards took control early fueled by a 22-2 run over a seven-minute stretch to build a 31-8 lead midway through the opening half.
- 1st Half: Jewell continued their hot shooting in the first half and built a commanding 63-25 lead at halftime. The Cards shot 61 percent from the field in the first half and were 9-17 from beyond the arc.
- 2nd Half: The Pride went on a mini 4-0 run only to see Jewell catch fire again and Sean Kostyk's three point shooting helped the Cards build their largest lead of the night 91-42. Kostyk finished 5-5 from three-point land on the night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Cardinals never trailed the Pride in the game.
- Jewell held Purdue Northwest to 32 percent shooting in the first half.
- The Cardinals cooled off in the second half only shooting 42 percent but were able to knock down 8 more three point shots.
- The Cardinals out-rebounded the Pride 27-14 and were 16-21 from the free throw line.
TURNING POINT
- The Cardinals used their 22-2 run in the first half to build a lead they would never relinquish.
LEADERS OF THE FLIGHT
- Four players finished in double-figures for the Cardinals led by Keith Hayes who scored a game high 28 points. Pharroh Gordon had 18 while Kostyk and Patrick Whelan had 15 and 14 respectively.
- Gordon collected a double-double adding 12 rebounds.
YOU SHOULD NOTE
- With the win, the Cardinals start the season 2-0 for the second consecutive season.
